Tokyo girls skirt with pockets sewing tutorial
Before sewing
For sewing this skirt we recommend to use a dense Jersey.
You can make the details of the pockets and the waistband from the main fabric or from another fabric, at your discretion.
Supplies
- Main fabric;
- Interfaicing for pocket pieces;
- Elastic for a waistband;
- Thread.

Fabric consumption = desired skirt length + 4 cm (1,57 in).

Description of tailoring
Mark the place of the pockets on the front.
Iron the interfacing tape to the pocket opening on the wrong side.
Serge the pocket opening raw edge.
Fold the pocket opening to 1 cm (0.39 in) and stitch.
Form the pockets and baste it. Press.
Pin the pockets to the front, aligning the markings. Sew in place 0,2 cm (0.08 in) from the edge.
Place bar tacks at the edge of the pocket entrance.
Pin the skirt right side together along the short edge. Serge it and then press.
Pin the waistband right side together along the short edge and stitch. Press. Fold the waistband in half and press.
Stitch elastic’s short edges together. Make a ring.
Insert elastic into the waistband. Fix with pins.
Pin the waistband to the skirt right sides together. Sew in place.
Serge the hem bottom of the skirt. Press. Fold the skirt’s hem to 2 cm and stitch.
You can use decorative stitch.
Finish your skirt with some ironing.
